How to Create Passive Income On Amazon KDP
It’s one of the easiest marketplaces to sell on
We’ve talked about so many marketplaces for passive income as a beginner, but one of them truly holds a place in my heart:
Amazon KDP by Amazon.
Now, when I first learned about making passive income, I did some research and decided to sell on Amazon KDP.
By applying the right tips and steps, I soon started making passive income from a platform that was free to sell on.
6 Reasons You Should Sell on Amazon
- Amazon has a lot of customers
- Signing up on Amazon KDP is totally free
- Uploading products is free
- If you wanted to sell journals and paperback, they handle the printing and delivery
- You can build a profitable business from the comfort of your own home
These reasons were enough to make me create my account on Amazon KDP when I was just starting.
I sold ebooks and made passive income on Amazon KDP, which is why today I’ll be showing you how to create passive income on Amazon KDP by selling ebooks.
But then comes the question people always ask: How do you get people to find your books on Amazon and buy them?
Well, there are 3 ways to get buyers to find your ebook.
The 3 Ways to Promote Your Ebook on Amazon for Passive Income
1. Run Free Promos
Amazon has a program called ‘Kindle Select.’
Kindle Select is a 90-day program where Amazon makes your book free for anyone to download and read on their Kindle.
This program is therefore only for ebooks.
How it works is simple: Once you have your ebook, you’ll have the option on your dashboard to add it to the program.
While your ebook is in the KDP Select program, it’ll be free for anyone to download.
The only thing is this; while your ebook is in the select program, you can’t sell it elsewhere.
It’s exclusive to Amazon.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: How will you make any money when people download your ebook for free?
Well, during those 90 days, you’ll basically be giving your ebook away for free, but if your ebook is high quality, this can actually be beneficial.
Because people can read your book and leave reviews, which will boost your social proof on Amazon.
After those 90 days, you’ll have a book with good reviews that will help convince more buyers to purchase it.
So, if you’re looking to build a long-term business with ebooks, Kindle Select is a great way to market your ebook.
Remember, you won’t be able to sell your ebook elsewhere while it’s on the kindle select program.
2. Run Amazon Ads
Well, while I’ve never really run ads on the Amazon Ads program, it’s still an option for anyone who wants to bring more buyers to their ebook on Amazon.
Like any marketplace ad program, when you run ads, you pay for the program to show your products at the top of search results.
This means that when buyers search for a query you’ve set up ads for, your ebook will show up, thereby increasing your chances of making a sale.
The only thing is that you’ll have to pay to show up in front of buyers, which might not be convenient for beginners.
3. Learn the art of keyword research
There’s a marketing strategy called SEO.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and how it works is that on marketplaces, there are search bars where buyers can make search queries.
These marketplaces have algorithms that allow you to show up in search results based on how optimized your product listing is for that search.
SEO is made up of different steps: finding the right search query and optimizing your product listing with that keyword.
Keyword research and listing optimization basically allow you to show up at the top of the search results when a buyer searches and is ready to make a purchase.
Imagine I wanted to buy a book on ‘How to Advance Your Career,’ which is a keyword I found.
I’d search for the keyword and start making my decision based on the top search results.
Let’s say you did the keyword research using the strategy I share and found the keyword ‘How to Advance Your Career’
and as a career professional, you wanted to write an ebook.
Well, this keyword meets our profitable keyword standard with high demand, as evidenced by Amazon’s autosuggestions,
and low competition of less than 1000 search results (it has 798 results).
The next step would be to create an ebook on the topic and optimize the listing as you upload the ebook.
Optimizing your listing can be very straightforward:
- add the keyword to your title, description, and tag section,
- then find related keywords to add to the tag section.
Now, you know the keyword we found, which has just 798 results.
The first book for the keyword has over 85 reviews,
and even at the $2.32 price, this one book made the author $197.20 from just one book that was sold on a free platform.
Another example is the second keyword we found, ‘acing job interviews,’ with just 316 search results.
This one has over 23 reviews,
and even at the $9.99 price, that’s $229.77 from a single book. Imagine being able to find a list of these kinds of keywords for your specific niche, writing ebooks on them, and then optimizing your listing to rank on Amazon.
That’s basically passive income from free traffic on Amazon.
Now, I know you’re asking, ‘What exactly is my strategy for finding these keywords?’
Well, I use ChatGPT — no fancy keyword research software, just ChatGPT. I share my entire strategy for keyword research in my new ebook, the art of keyword research.
So, if you’re ready to turn the free traffic on Amazon KDP or any other marketplace with SEO features into passive income, I highly recommend you grab the art of keyword research here.
