In 2025 as a beginner

Coloring books are one of the easiest digital products to create and sell using AI.

In fact, I have four platforms where you can sell your AI-generated coloring books for passive income as a beginner.

So in this guide, I’ll be showing you how to:

  • Do keyword research for your coloring pages
  • Create coloring pages using AI tools
  • Sell your coloring pages on those four different platforms

Step 1: Keyword Research

If you’ve been reading most of my recent posts, you’re likely aware of the emphasis I’ve placed on keyword research.

The only reason marketplaces won’t work for a beginner is if their keyword strategy is weak.

Most beginners create the first generic digital product ideas that come to mind and then wonder why they don’t achieve the sales they want.

Well, it’s because marketplaces have competition.

To stand out, you need to beat the competition, and that’s exactly what having a good keyword strategy means.

For your keyword research, I recommend using free tools like ChatGPT.

For this keyword research, I chose the dog coloring page niche

and using ChatGPT, I was able to generate the following ideas.

ChatGPT's Dashboard

I loved the “dog breed specific” idea and so I had ChatGPT generate a list of dog breeds.

Then over on Amazon, we found these profitable keywords after our analysis of their demand and competition:

  • French bulldog coloring book (237 search results)
  • Dachshund coloring book (378 search results)
  • Yorkshire Terrier coloring book (358 search results)
  • and so on

Step 2. Creating the Coloring Pages Using AI Tools

Once you have the keywords you’d like to rank for on marketplaces, the next step is to create your coloring pages.

One of the best tools I recommend for this is Midjourney, which is probably one of the most advanced AI art tools there is.

Just take a look at this coloring page image; they were all made in Midjourney.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: don’t I have to be experienced to create these types of images on Midjourney, and isn’t Midjourney a paid tool?

Well, you’re right.

You need to be at least a little skilled with prompting Midjourney, and yes, Midjourney is a paid tool.

But this is a business you’re trying to start, and as you’ll soon see, you can sell your coloring pages on four different platforms. So in my opinion, the low upfront cost for starting this business is definitely worth it.

As for the learning curve to generate sellable coloring pages, there are two ways you can learn how to create sellable images on Midjourney:

1. Practice on your own

You can simply pay for a subscription to Midjourney and, along with some YouTube tutorials, learn how to use it.

2. Learn from an expert

If you’re serious about starting this business, learning from an expert is a much better route to take.

And if you’re a beginner with Midjourney, I have just the learning resource for you.

It’s called Midjourney Magic, made by my friend, Angela.

She sent me a copy of the program, so I know firsthand that the Midjourney Magic program is an awesome resource for beginners.

Here are some samples of her AI images.

These are all so beautiful and worth selling.

Step 3: Selling Your Coloring Books

Knowing the right marketplaces to sell your coloring pages on is very important for bringing all the pieces of this side hustle puzzle together.

In my opinion, the four platforms I’m about to share with you are the best places to sell your coloring pages.

1. Amazon

As we’ve already seen, there are many low-competition keywords on Amazon to sell your coloring books, and because it’s Amazon, a platform we all know and buy from, it’s definitely profitable to sell on.

Take, for instance, here’s a listing that ranks for this keyword we found, French Bulldog coloring book.

With 377 reviews, this coloring book has most likely made its owner over $3,068.78, which is a low estimate since not all buyers leave a review.

And that’s just from one coloring book. Imagine creating dozens of these kinds of coloring books on Amazon on the right keywords.

Do the math, that’s a lot of money.

2. Etsy

Etsy might seem competitive on the outside, but with the right product category, it’s not.

Coloring books, when researched correctly, are still very profitable on Etsy.

Take this same keyword we found before, for example.

It’s auto suggested by Etsy (which means there’s a demand for it)

Yet it has just about 845 search results (which is low and perfect for our criteria of less than 1000 search results)

3. Teachers Pay Teachers

This is a less common, yet highly profitable platform to make passive income with your coloring books.

The only difference is that with TPT, you’ll need to tailor your digital products to suit the teacher demographic.

So your coloring pages should be more educational than random.

Nevertheless, TPT gets over a million visitors every month,

Teachers Pay Teachers Traffic Insights by Similarweb

and while you now have to pay a one-time fee of $29 to own a shop on Teachers Pay Teachers, the return on investment is definitely worth it.

4. Creative Fabrica

Creative Fabrica is yet another platform to make money selling your coloring pages.

One thing I love about Creative Fabrica is the healthy competition, which is great for beginners.

And while you’ll need to apply to get approved for a store,

by setting up a proper portfolio of your coloring pages from other stores and following the instructions they give for submitting your portfolio, you can get accepted and will be able to have your own store.

On Creative Fabrica, the competition is so healthy that you don’t have to look too hard to find profitable keywords.

I wasn’t an expert when I launched my store and haven’t added a new product for a while now, yet it has over 502 followers and 3,226 favorites.

So yes, you should definitely apply for a store on Creative fabrica.

Now that you know where to sell your coloring pages, my advice is to start with just one marketplace first, and then upload your coloring books to other platforms once you’re successful with one.

Conclusion

Coloring pages are just one of the many ways you can make money with AI images,

so learning how to prompt Midjourney to generate high-quality images is definitely a future-proof skill that can make you money in many other ways, including:

  • AI-generated recipe books
  • AI content creation
  • AI stock images
  • AI mockup images
  • AI merch businesses
  • and so much more

So if you’re just starting with passive income and want to learn a profitable, future-proof skill to make money, you can click here to grab the Midjourney Magic training program.
